The handicap lift is a product that does exactly what its name says – helps lift a disabled individual. One type of lift you may associate with the disabled is the automobile lift, most usually found in a handicapped accessible van. This type of lift lowers a ramp for a wheelchair bound passenger to get on, then raises into the vehicle, making entry and exit effortless. Chair lifts are other types of handicapped lifts you might want to look at. These lifts are also used by elderly individuals who may not be classified as disabled but need assistance when rising from their seat. A chair lift raises the sitter to a near-standing position with the push of a button. These chairs range in price depending on the model you select. There are even wheelchairs that can convert to standing position. And, you'll also discover beds that help lift one into an upright position. A handicapped lift is one of the most useful types of equipment for the disabled.

While these lifts may not be cheap, they are worth the money. Also, many types of insurance or government assistance for the disabled may help foot the bill for equipment like handicapped lifts. These items can be found at most any medical supply store. Of course not every disabled individual needs to use a lift, but for those that do these lifts are very helpful.

The handicap lift is just one type of accessory that makes life as a disabled person easier. You may or may not require one of these depending on your disability. Before purchasing a lift it is important to shop around, and make sure you buy a product that is safe and reliable. The Americans with Disabilities Act has a website filled with information about disabled living and equipment for the handicapped.
